What is special about TU Braunschweig?

Here you will be trained simultaneously in Engineering and Business Management issues, so that later in your career you will be working at the interfaces between

You will be familiarised with the techniques of construction as well as with cost-conscious action and the legal and contractual framework conditions.

At the end of your studies, you will have a cross-sector overview of the management structures and mechanisms of companies. Due to your training in construction technology, you will be able to use this knowledge specifically in the construction industry.

Interdisciplinary education

The Bachelor's degree programme lays the foundations for the interdisciplinary training to become an industrial and civil engineer.

In the technical subjects you learn the breadth of Civil Engineering and are trained in the basic subjects. In the elective area, you decide on additional subjects according to your own inclinations.

In economics, you will also initially go through basic training, which you will deepen in selected subjects at the end of your Bachelor's degree.

Through subjects in the integration area, you will become familiar with the interlinking fields of both disciplines. You will also gain knowledge in construction and civil law.

International career opportunities

Study abroad? No problem! Thanks to the numerous international exchange programmes at TU Braunschweig, you can easily integrate semesters abroad into your studies: Equivalent achievements from abroad are recognised. Ideally, this does not prolong your studies. More than one third of our students already gain international experience during their studies.

With special exchange programmes for Master's degree students at TU Braunschweig, you can even additionally obtain the American MBA (Master of Business Administration). This is made possible through cooperation with University of Nebraska (USA) and University of Rhode Island (USA). You spend the last year of your studies in the USA and at the same time acquire the MBA and the Master of Science from TU Braunschweig.

Study abroad

Industrial an Civil Engineering is not a degree programme only for "supermen" or "superwomen". In general, however, some basic personal requirements are desirable. You should be able to understand abstract issues well and analytical thinking should not be too difficult. You don't need to be afraid of theory: Industrial and Civil Engineering is essentially a practical subject.

Construction in practice is a "communicative process". Industrial and civil engineers are not "calculators". Rather, they have to work out a joint solution with many other participants, which also requires discussion and communication skills to a great extent. This is practised during studies, e.g. through seminars, seminar lectures and group work.

Language skills (especially English) are essential, as many projects are carried out by German companies worldwide and communication and documentation must then take place in a foreign language. In addition, international technical literature is often first published in English before it is translated (if at all). Those who have problems here can improve their English skills in-house at the TU Language Centre or learn additional languages.

Industrial and civil engineers work in areas where business management and technical tasks overlap:

in the management and controlling of large construction companies and the real estate industry
in the management and leadership of construction companies
as independent contractors or engineers
in facility management, the real estate industry, public transport companies and energy and water suppliers

At banks, industrial and civil engineers are employed as experts in the fields of financing, insurance and management consultancy.

Admission requirements and application

You need a valid university entrance qualification to apply. In addition, the Bachelor's degree programme in Industrial and Civil Engineering includes a pre-study internship. It is strongly recommended that you complete this before starting your studies.
