Computer Science has a long tradition at TU Braunschweig: in 1972, it was one of the first universities to establish the Computer Science degree programme.

An optimal start to your studies

The degree programme starts with an orientation phase at the beginning of the winter semester. A few weeks before lectures begin, you can take part in the preliminary courses in Computer Science and Mathematics, which will provide you with the necessary prerequisites for an optimal start to your Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

In the first week of lectures, the Dean of Studies will introduce you to the structure of your studies in a welcome event. In addition, you will get to know your future professors during this event and will be assigned your personal mentor, who will be available to you as a contact person throughout your studies.

In addition to the theoretical basic knowledge, your study plan also includes the key qualifications that are indispensable for your later professional life. From analytical and methodological skills to communication and presentation skills to project management and teamwork: you will be optimally prepared for this in courses such as the seminar, the software development project, the team project, an internship and also as part of the "Key Qualifications" module.

At the same time, these courses provide you with a good practical orientation and, if applicable, initial contacts with some of the numerous cooperation partners of the computer science institutes.

Those who have experience abroad and foreign language skills are in particularly high demand in the business world. Today, large companies operate globally, research projects are carried out in international teams, and specialist literature is written in English. It is therefore important that you use your studies to gain experience abroad and professionalise your foreign language skills.

Study abroad

Thinking in logical-analytical and creative-constructive categories characterises computer scientists. If you enjoyed scientific-mathematical school subjects, you bring a good basis for this with you. Programming skills are helpful, but not obligatory.

In addition, you should have a willingness to work with other people and an interest in dealing with ways of thinking from other disciplines, because in professional life, teamwork and cooperation with specialists from a wide range of disciplines are common.

Knowledge of English is also becoming increasingly important, as international specialist literature is published almost exclusively in English. No one has to give up studying computer science because of a lack of English skills; however, you should improve your language skills with courses at the TU Language Centre during your studies at the latest.

Computer science now touches (almost) all areas of our daily lives. As a result, the job opportunities for computer science graduates are manifold.
