Right from the start of your Bachelor's degree programme, you will get to know the whole breadth of Civil Engineering. At the beginning of your studies, we will teach you the basics of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering in subjects such as

• Mathematics
• Mechanics
• Building material technology
• Building Construction
• Surveying
• Construction management and construction industry

Subsequently, important methods, in-depth impressions of the entire spectrum of Civil Engineering and many practical issues are part of the teaching programme within the framework of the engineering science specialisation. The canon of subjects ranges from

• the construction subjects, such as Steel Construction, Solid Construction or Timber Construction,
• to the transport sector,
• subjects in Environmental and Water Engineering.
• to the subject area of Computational Engineering.

In the overarching part of your Bachelor's degree, you acquire key qualifications such as English, presentation techniques or general business studies for engineers.

Through the newly designed lecture series, you will gain a comprehensive overview and a department-specific insight into current and future activities in the subject areas of sustainability and digitalisation.

Thanks to the numerous international exchange programmes at the TU Braunschweig, you can easily integrate semesters abroad into your studies: Your achievements from abroad will be discussed in advance and can subsequently be recognised. Many of our students already gain international experience during their studies.

Double degree programme in the USA

Our double degree programme for Master's students with the University of Rhode Island (USA) offers you a special bonus: You spend the last year of your studies there and simultaneously acquire the Master of Science degree from the TU Braunschweig and the University of Rhode Island.

Excursions at home and abroad are offered in a variety of ways. What they have in common is that they take you off the beaten track and you bring home unusual, enriching impressions. You can also gain insights into which views and topics are current elsewhere through guest lectures by domestic and foreign capacities.

To get off to a good start in engineering studies, your inclination towards mathematical and scientific subjects is important: you should have a basic interest in these subjects, especially Mathematics and Physics play a decisive role. Biology and chemistry are not quite as important - however, there are special fields in which civil engineers deal intensively with the combination of Construction and Biology or Chemistry, for example in the field of environmental protection.

Another important "tool of the trade" is the confident use of computers. civil engineers do not usually do their own programming - but here too there are specialists in the use of EDP in Civil Engineering.

On the subject of languages: Knowledge of foreign languages is important, as you can expect many job opportunities abroad. Here our language centre offers you good opportunities to expand or brush up your language skills!

Since civil engineers work with many different people in their future careers, communication and teamwork skills are required - but don't worry, you will train these skills during your studies at TU Braunschweig.

Civil engineers construct buildings:

• from a warehouse to a factory,
• from the tunnel to the underground station,
• from the footbridge to the long-span sea bridge,
• to onshore and offshore wind turbines.

They plan, organise and manage our entire infrastructure:

Civil engineers guarantee the safety of our structures, transport and utility systems, our coasts and waterways. As a civil engineer, you will have a lot to do with people in your later professional life. You communicate, steer and manage diverse projects and take on responsibility.
