The expertise areas of the Institute of Control Engineering (IFR) are control of mechatronic systems and vehicle electronics. The research is concentrated on industrial mechatronic, robotic and mobile applications. One of the main goals is to improve the safety of vehicles by reliable driver assistance systems. The focus is directed to sensor data fusion, autonomous vehicle management and system architecture in combination with methods for simulation and diagnostic. In addition to the project management, the IFR is responsible for vehicle guidance and control, environment recognition, data acquisition and security concept.
The Institute of Flight Guidance (IFF) deals with the development and use of precision positioning and navigation systems based on satellite navigation. The main focus is set on aviation applications. Due to the high demand, the research on using precision positioning systems for rail and road vehicles has been intensified. The IFF is in charge of the positioning system of the vehicle, developing and maintaining a digital map as well as the development of the HMI.
