Appendix of Admission Regulations: Previous chemical education - minimum requirements

The Master Program is amenable for graduates with e.g. a B.Sc. in Chemistry (four years of study). We expect very good degrees (usually, first division) from our applicants. Prime requirement for the being accepted into the M.Sc. Chemistry program is sound knowledge in:

  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Mathematics and Physics

We cannot usually accept graduates from related Bachelor Degrees, such as Bachelor of Engineering or Pharmacy, as the admission regulations require applicants to have accumulated at least 119 credit points in chemistry in their previous education. For details please refer to the table in the appendix of the admission regulations: www.tu-braunschweig.de/chemistry/master/studium. Your qualification has to be proven with transcripts.

Sufficient English language skills have to be proven by IELTS or an equivalent test (e.g. TOEFL). Required minimum test scores are IELTS 6 or TOEFL iBT 80 (PBT 550 / CBT 213). As the default course language is German, with a limited number of classes taught in English, at least a basic knowledge of German is required when commencing studies at TU Braunschweig. Your German language skills may well be below DSH level which would allow you to apply for a master course at any German university, however you are expected to acquire additional German language skills in the course of your studies. To this end, the Language Centre at TU Braunschweig offers German language classes at different levels. For more information please refer to www.tu-braunschweig.de/sprachenzentrum.

Should your profile match the above mentioned qualification, we are looking forward to receiving your application. If you require a visa for taking up studies in Germany, the following deadlines apply:

  • April 15 if you apply for the winter term starting in October
  • October 15 if you apply for the summer term starting in April.

If you do not require a visa, deadlines are July 15 and January 15, respectively.

Unfortunately, TU Braunschweig does not offer financial support. All foreign students seeking scholarship are encouraged to apply from their home country to local or international funding agencies, e.g. the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The International Office at your home institution can assist you in applying and finding a suitable program for you. Also, the German diplomatic missions or the DAAD offices abroad will be able to provide information and the appropriate application forms.

Currently a tuition fee of 500 EUR/semester has to be paid. In addition, every student is obliged to pay a semester charge of approx. 250 EUR/semester (fee details). The Studentenwerk Ostniedersachsen (Student Services Bureau) or the International Office should also be contacted by you in order to reserve a room in a dormitory once you have received the officical letter of acceptance. Please note that the Department of Life Sciences cannot reserve rooms for you!
