Please note: Try to take the placement test as early as possible before the semester begins so that you can take your desired courses.

If you have any questions, please contact: sprachenzentrum-englisch(at)tu-braunschweig.de

Test procedure

You have 25 minutes to complete the test on the computer. However, please take at least 35 minutes for the placement test, as you must first read the instructions and understand the sample test.

C-tests consist of four to five authentic texts in which you have to fill in 100 gaps according to the so-called C-test principle. Starting with the second sentence, the second half of every second word is missing.

You can find more information on the C-Test and sample tests here:

C-Test.de

Important: Please take the test on your own and do not use any aids! Only this will ensure that you are placed in the course level that suits you best.

Check the table to see which course offer you can attend with your placement test result.

Upgrading to the next level

At levels A1- B1, you need 8 SWS (semester credit hours) per level to be upgraded to the next higher level. Each course of 4 SWS covers half a level. Example: If you have passed A2.1, you will be upgraded to A2.2. If you have passed A.2.2, you will be upgraded to B1.1, etc. The upgrading is done automatically in AURA.

At levels B2 and C1, you also need 8 SWS respectively in order to be upgraded to the next higher level, i.e. you must have passed 4 courses with 2 SWS each at the respective level to be upgraded. You have to pass at least one general language course (English for University Studies B2, Advanced English for Academic Purposes C1) or one subject-specific course (e.g. English for Biologists B2C1, English for Mechanical Engineers B2C1, etc.).

This upgrading (from B2 to C1 and from C1 to C2) is not done automatically in AURA. Please contact the English language department.
