Christoph Harig joined the Institute of International Relations in October 2021. From 2018 to 2021, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg. He holds a PhD in Security Studies from King’s College London. His dissertation examined the relationship between United Nations peacekeeping operations and internal military missions in Brazil.

Christoph Harig’s main interests in research and teaching lie on non-traditional security threats and global governance, international institutions and policy diffusion in world society. His current research focuses on the design, implementation, and contestation of norms in international relations. Empirically, this research examines the influence of states from the ‘Global South’ in international organisations. Further research interests include civil-military relations as well as violence and conflict research, especially in the field of militarised public security and the "War on Drugs".
