Free Volume Studies of Lignocellulosic Cell Walls
This research project aims to characterize the free volume properties of in-situ lignocellulosic cell wall polymers. A specific focus is directed towards the effects of temperature and relative humidity, i.e., cell wall moisture content, on the polymer free volume. To achieve this, a positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy is to be utilized for the first time on plant-based materials.
