Summary
This course gives an introduction into urban ecohydrology, an emerging interdisciplinary field that studies plant–water relations within urban settings. The course discusses topics that are specific to urban sites such as urban water balance, urban groundwater recharge, urban heat islands, and their bidirectional interaction with plant dynamics. Here, applied topics such as green–blue infrastructure and the sponge city concept will also be discussed.
Scope
The course targets graduate-level students of the environmental sciences programme as well as students of the civil and environmental engineering programmes. The course consists of weekly lectures (3 ECTS) and practical exercises (3 ECTS), thus students will earn 6 ECTS after successful completion.
