The computer science institutes offer preliminary courses for first-year students every semester. The preliminary course in computer science is helpful in preparing for the BA modules Programming 1 and Programming 2.
You can find the current timetable and the course catalogue here under the tab Timetables and Courses.
Registration for TU courses is done via Stud.IP, unless otherwise stated in the course catalogue.
In order to access Stud.IP at the TU, among other things, you need a y-number, which you will receive if you are enrolled in the Media Studies cooperation programme as a major or minor subject.
What is a y-number? This is the number you can use to print at the university and also to use the TU-wide W-LAN. You will also receive a email@example.com e-mail address. The y-number is also needed to access Stud.IP.
The Gauß-IT-Zentrum, the TU's computer centre, regularly holds introductory events, especially in the first few weeks, with information on where and how to print, what free software you can get from the IT Centre and how to top up your print account.
Please also note the information for first-semester students, the introductory events, examination regulations, examination registration procedures and the annotated course catalogue for your minor subject.
You can find the information at the institutes offering the courses or, for German and English Studies, also at Faculty 6 and for IST at Faculty 5.
In cross-curricular courses, you can get to know content from other subject areas; in addition, exercises on learning and presentation techniques or on the acquisition of a foreign language are offered. In the Bachelor of Media Studies, it is compulsory to take courses from the professionalisation area. The courses are listed separately. They may not be from the courses offered in the major or minor subject.
If you have not chosen English Studies as your minor subject, you must provide proof of English language skills at level B2 as part of the professionalisation area for the Media Studies major. You can achieve this, for example, by taking language courses at the TU Braunschweig. You can find information on this on the pages of the TU Language Centre. Placement tests are compulsory before attending the first course: Dates of the placement tests.
The professionalisation module draws on courses offered by the HBK and the TU Braunschweig as well as the Federal Academy for Cultural Education Wolfenbüttel.
HBK: evv.hbk-bs.de/vv/ (under Bachelor of Arts -> Interdisciplinary Professionalisation)
In order to be able and allowed to take exams after the end of the lecture period, you must register for the exams. The HBK Examinations Office is responsible for the Bachelor's degree programme in Media Studies.
