Project 2-3

The project aims are to investigate the influence of various impurities from the recycling process on the electrochemical performance of lithium-ion cells and especially their cathodes. For this purpose, unique electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods are further developed in the area of measurement technology and data evaluation and eventually combined into a comprehensive investigation methodology. Besides, the impedance methods will be extended by comparative electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry.

Specific objectives:

• (Further) development of electrochemical measurement techniques with a focus on impedance spectroscopic methods
• Determination of tolerance limits of impurities
• Traceability of measurement results to the extent of impurities
• Evaluation of standard analytics along the recycling line for the quality assurance of rebuilt cells

Expected outcome:

• Comprehension of impurity-property relationships
• Standardized application of different coupled electrochemical methods
