Problem Setting

Industrial companies are exposed to a growing threat of piracy and counterfeiting. In the past, mainly manufacturers of consumer goods, which were easy to produce, have been victims of piracy and counterfeiting. Today, even manufacturers of technologically complex consumer and capital goods, as well as their suppliers, have to face this threat. Thus, piracy and counterfeiting now affect not only individual companies but entire corporate networks.

Therefore, an effective combating of piracy and counterfeiting has to go beyond an isolated examination of a single company, but requires consideration and involvement of all partners involved in the corporate network. To minimize the risk of piracy and counterfeiting in corporate networks, it is necessary to take this threat into account by building and designing enterprise networks, especially in location decisions and selection of potential partners.

 

Objective & Approach

Against this background, the aim of this project is to select and implement a multi-criteria decision making method for the quantitative analysis of value added networks and location decisions.

In the first step multi-attribute decision making methods are analyzed with regard to their application possibility to network structure and location decisions.

Based on this analysis and against the background of piracy and counterfeiting, in the second step one method is recommended and prototypical implemented.
