Study German in Braunschweig

Situated in the heart of Germany, Braunschweig offers foreign students the rare opportunity of learning German in a region where mainly high German is spoken. Come to Braunschweig and make the most of it!

At the Language Center at the TU Braunschweig, international university applicants and foreign students, as well as visiting researchers and scholars will find a wide range of German language courses to choose from.

Intensive Preparatory Courses

Within 2 to 12 months (depending on the student's prior level of proficiency), the intensive language courses prepare university applicants for the German Language Proficiency Test for Foreign Students (DSH) or the Test of German as a Foreign Language (TestDaF) - the two language gateways to studying at a German university.

Semester Courses

These German language courses, which take place regularly throughout the semester, have been designed for

• exchange students (e.g. foreign students registered under programs such as ERASMUS) who will be studying in Braunschweig for two semesters at the most and do not have to take the DSH
• foreign students at TU Braunschweig who have already passed the DSH, but want further to improve their German language skills
• visiting researchers and scholars

International Summer Courses

For nearly 30 years, the International Summer Courses »German Language and Cultural Studies« have been taking place during the semester break from mid-July on. They offer young people from around the world the opportunity to improve their German language skills and gain hands-on experience of Germany.

The course »German Language, Cultural Studies and Technology«, offered in September and October, also includes lessons in German for Specific Purposes. It is especially recommended for foreign students who wish to start studying at TU Braunschweig the following semester.

The cultural program for all summer courses includes integrated field trips and excursions (e.g. to Berlin and Hamburg).
